The Farewell Send-Off of the third LLM Batch of NLU Tripura was held on 13th May 2026 at the University Campus. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, delivered an inspiring farewell message to the outgoing batch, encouraging them to always uphold the importance of justice, integrity, and dedication in their professional and personal lives.

The event included a vibrant cultural night, fun games, and a DJ session followed by dinner, where students, faculty members, and staff members enthusiastically participated and enjoyed the celebration together. The programme marked a memorable evening filled with joy, gratitude, and best wishes for the graduating batch.

Consolidated Report on Capacity Building Programmes on Constitutional Values, Gender Justice and Child-Centric GPDP

As part of the 2^nd Phase of Project on Handholding Support to 713 Gram Panchayats in five districts, National Law University Tripura, in collaboration with the Department of Rural Development (Panchayat), Government of Tripura, successfully organized five two-day Capacity Building Programmes at Agartala during April???May 2026, covering the districts of Khowai (23-24 April 2026), Unakoti (27-28 April 2026), Dhalai (04-05 April 2026), North Tripura (07-08 May 2026), and South Tripura (11-12 May 2026). Each programme was conducted over a duration of two days for participants from the respective district. The programmes were designed for Pradhans, Chairpersons of Panchayat Samitis, Panchayat Executive Officers (PExOs), RPMs, and grassroots governance stakeholders to strengthen participatory and inclusive local governance through the framework of Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs).

The sessions focused on constitutional values, democratic governance, gender justice, child protection, constitutional literacy, and sustainable grassroots development. The sessions started with address by the Vice-Chancellor, National Law University, Tripura on topics like Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), constitutional values, and critical social concerns such as child marriage and tobacco consumption in Tripura. The session highlighted the importance of integrating social justice and inclusive development into local governance planning processes.

Interactive discussions, presentations, group activities, case studies, and participatory exercises enabled participants to identify local governance challenges such as gender inequality, sanitation gaps, water scarcity, poor infrastructure, substance abuse, and lack of awareness in rural and border areas. Special emphasis was placed on Women-Friendly and Child-Friendly Panchayats through analysis of PAI 2.0 indicators, community participation, Mahila Sabhas, Bal Sabhas, and convergence-based planning.

The programmes significantly enhanced participants??? understanding of inclusive GPDP preparation, financial planning, constitutional governance, and evidence-based grassroots development. Overall, the workshops successfully strengthened the institutional capacity of Panchayati Raj representatives and promoted the vision of constitutionally aware, gender-sensitive, child-friendly, and participatory rural governance across Tripura.

National Law University, Tripura organizes the 3rd Intra Moot Court Competition, 2026

The Moot Court Society of National Law University, Tripura successfully organised the 3rd Intra Moot Court Competition, 2026 from 8th May to 10th May, 2026 at the University campus. The Competition was organised with the objective of promoting advocacy skills, legal research, drafting abilities, and courtroom etiquette among students.

The Competition was inaugurated by Hon???ble Mr. Justice S.C. Das, Judge, High Court of Tripura. In his inaugural address, His Lordship encouraged the participants to cultivate excellence in legal advocacy, research, and professional ethics, while highlighting the importance of moot court exercises in shaping future legal professionals.

The Competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across different semesters of the University. Participants argued on complex legal issues before panels comprising Professors of Law and practicing Advocates. The rounds were conducted in a manner simulating real courtroom proceedings, thereby providing students with practical exposure to legal argumentation and advocacy techniques.

The Final Round of the Competition was adjudged by distinguished legal professionals from Khaitan & Co., namely:

The Competition was conducted under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, whose continuous encouragement and support have consistently contributed towards the academic and professional development of students.

The Moot Court activities were coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Ripon Bhattacharjee, Moot Court Advisor.

The successful organisation of the Competition was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the student members of the Moot Court Society. Special appreciation is extended to Aishikee Biswas for her leadership and coordination, Rishabh Kumar for his organisational support, and Pranav Narayan Mishra for his active contribution towards the smooth conduct of the event.

A special mention is also made of Prince Kumawat, who was responsible for the overall management of the programme. His tireless efforts, along with the immense dedication and commitment of the volunteers, played a significant role in the successful completion of the Competition.

NLU Tripura???s Centre for Tribal Studies & Social Justice Hosted a Two-Day Workshop on Forest Rights, Legal Safeguards and Tribal Governance

The Centre for Tribal Studies & Social Justice, NLU Tripura, with the support of the Tribal Research & Cultural Institute (TR&CI), Government of Tripura, successfully organized a Two-Day Workshop on ???Forest Rights, Legal Safeguards and Tribal Governance??? on 25th & 26th April 2026 at NLU Tripura. The workshop was graced by Hon???ble Mr Justice U.B. Saha, former Judge of the High Court of Tripura, as the Inaugural Chief Guest, along with Shri Subhasis Das, Director, Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, and Smt Ruma Rudra Paul, Deputy Director, TR&CI. The Founding Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, in his welcome address extended a warm greetings and set the tone of the Workshop by emphasizing the Forest Rights Act, 2006 as a crucial step toward addressing colonial injustices, while stressing the need for effective implementation and constitutional balance to protect marginalized communities. Prof Singh further highlighted the shift toward justice-oriented laws and emphasized the role of universities, research, and fieldwork in addressing real challenges faced by tribal and vulnerable groups. Justice U.B. Saha observed that despite India???s progressive welfare laws, their impact is often limited due to poor implementation and lack of awareness, particularly among tribal communities. He traced these gaps to the continuing influence of colonial legal frameworks and emphasized the vulnerability of tribal populations due to limited land rights and access to resources, urging law students to interpret laws critically and ensure their empathetic and effective application. Shri Subhashis Das noted that while the Forest Rights Act is progressive, its implementation remains weak, especially concerning community rights. He highlighted that lack of awareness and procedural gaps hinder tribal communities from claiming their entitlements, stressing the need for enhanced awareness, capacity-building, and institutional coordination to achieve meaningful justice.

Across both days, the resource persons covered a wide range of topics, including challenges in the implementation of the Forest Rights Act, key provisions of the law, various government schemes, and constitutional safeguards, along with insights into the structure and functioning of the TTAADC, among other important issues. The workshop witnessed participation from nominated tribal leaders of the Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, youth from various districts, and scholars and students from different universities and colleges across the state. The programme concluded with a valedictory session graced by Shri Pranajit Bhowmik, IFS, DCF (Protection), Tripura Forest Department, Government of Tripura, as the Chief Guest. The workshop was coordinated by Ms. Merelin Darlong, Faculty Coordinator, Centre for Tribal Studies & Social Justice, NLU Tripura, who also delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and contributors for the successful conduct of the workshop.

The Centre for Intellectual Property Studies (CIPS) organized a two-day special lecture series on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) issues on the eve of World Intellectual Property Day 2026. Dr. Pankaj Kumar, a leading IP expert and DPIIT IPR Chair Professor at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, conducted the two day session. The lecture introduced the foundations of IPRs as strategic tools for innovation and commercialization. Key areas covered included patents (utility vs. design, novelty, disclosure, and convention filings), industrial designs (protection for 10 years with a 5-year renewal), copyrights in service contracts, and the role of Geographical Indications (GI) and the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) in safeguarding traditional knowledge. Emphasis was placed on early publication, adherence to renewal timelines, and the critical role of IP in entrepreneurship, MSME growth, and academic innovation. Dr. Kumar underscored that intellectual property serves as a bridge between creativity and economic value. The observance of World Intellectual Property Day at National Law University Tripura adds a deeper institutional significance to the programme. Celebrating this day is not merely symbolic; it reflects a conscious academic practice of engaging with contemporary global IP discourse and aligning institutional priorities with innovation-driven development.
